Alexandria is a charming city with plenty of historical sites, scenic waterfronts, and vibrant neighborhoods to explore on two wheels. This is how I spent my day:
Morning:
We started our day by picking up our bikes from Unlimited Biking‘s location in Alexandria. They offer a variety of rental options, including traditional bikes, electric bikes, and accessories like helmets and locks.
Brunch Break:
After getting our bikes, we headed to one of Alexandria’s quaint cafes or brunch spots to fuel up for our ride. Places like Founders Park Cafe or Stomping Ground offer delicious breakfast options and outdoor seating perfect for enjoying the morning sunshine.
Old Town Alexandria:
Our first stop on our biking adventure was Old Town Alexandria. We cruised along the cobblestone streets lined with historic townhouses, boutiques, and restaurants. If you go, don’t forget to snap some photos of the colorful rowhouses and waterfront views along the Potomac River.
Mount Vernon Trail:
Next, we hopped onto the Mount Vernon Trail, a scenic biking path that runs along the Potomac River. This flat and paved trail offers beautiful views of the river, as well as access to landmarks like George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve.
Lunch at Belle Haven Park:
For lunch, we stopped at Belle Haven Park, a picturesque riverside park with picnic areas and scenic views of the Potomac. We enjoyed a leisurely picnic lunch while watching the boats pass by on the river.
Return to Alexandria:
After lunch, we started biking back to Alexandria, taking our time to explore any sights or attractions we may have missed on the way out. We returned our bikes to Unlimited Biking and grabbed some ice cream and a refreshing drink to cool off after our ride.
Evening:
As our biking adventure came to an end, we strolled along the waterfront or explored more of Old Town Alexandria on foot. With its charming streets, historic architecture, and lively atmosphere, there’s always something new to discover in Alexandria.
