About
Today, Bremen also excels for its cycling culture, with miles of bike lanes and a vibrant community of cyclists. Participants and spectators alike have the opportunity to explore Bremen’s rich history, cultural landmarks, and renowned hospitality, making GFNY Bremen not just a race but a complete cycling holiday.
The 112 km competitive long route is mostly flat and fast—but the wind will challenge you. The pre-race expo, start, finish, and post-race festivities all take place at the historic Tabakquartier. From there, the opening 4 km of the race are neutralized, meaning the peloton follows the lead vehicle at a controlled pace. Once you reach the airport area, the race is on.
From km 4 to 18, the course winds on small roads with numerous turns. This section will stretch the field early and lets you take full advantage of the closed roads. After passing under the A1 Autobahn, you enter the main loop, which long route riders will complete twice and medium route riders once. Race past vast farmlands, traditional farmsteads and forest on a flat and fast course. Frequent false flats will test you and sort groups. A 500m stretch of cobbles along a historic farm-turned-restaurant adds a classic touch to your GFNY Bremen race experience.
When riding back to the finish, you ride via the same roads as you took to the loop. The race’s timing finish is at km 106 for long route riders, where a long straight offers ideal conditions for a sprint. The timing finish line means this is where your official race time stops. The final 6 km that lead back to the celebratory finish at the Tabakquartier are neutralized and ridden at a casual pace to ensure safety. Use this section as a cool down along the scenic Ochtum River, enjoying the moment with fellow riders. Be sure to cross the final finish line at the Tabakquartier — only then is your race considered complete and you will be listed as a finisher. That’s where you’ll receive your GFNY finisher medal and post-race meal, and where the awards ceremony takes place.
The non-competitive medium route follows the same course but includes one loop and timing finish at km 68 and last 6km back to the celebratory finish at Tabakquartier at a casual pace. Medium route riders are timed and receive a finisher medal and a post-race meal at Tabakquartier. There are no awards in this category, and results will be listed alphabetically rather than by finish time.
