Private Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Walking Tour from Munich

Despite Munich today being a worldly and progressive city of modern values, the sad truth is that if we step back only as far as the 1920s, we’ll unfortunately see a much darker side to the Bavarian capital. Following WWI, political instability in Germany, and especially Munich, created swamp-like conditions where someone like Adolph Hitler and his National Socialist party were able to gain sway with the German people. Munich being heralded by the Nazi’s at the time as being the “capital city of the movement”, it only makes sense that a nearby town like Dachau would be the first place where the true evil of Nazism would be made known to the world.

Following the ascension of Hitler to the position of Chancellor and beginning their program of obliterating all opposition, it was in 1933 that Dachau concentration camp was opened, as a prison and brutal forced labour facility originally for political prisoners, but later anyone deemed by the party to be a non-citizen. The only Nazi concentration camp to run for the entire 12 year duration of the war, and also to serve as a training facility and model for SS brutality applied to every other camp opened afterwards, Dachau concentration camp saw 200,000 inmates with more than 40,000 people murdered there through starvation, disease, torture and overwork.

After the liberation of Dachau KZ’s inmate population by allied forces in 1945, Dachau concentration camp, now known as Dachau KZ memorial site, functions not only as a place of mourning for victims and a place of remembrance for survivors, but also as a modern place of learning for visitors from all over the world. Join us as we take you on an important  and informative tour through the memorial site grounds, exploring remnant facilities and learning about the lives & experiences of real people, dragged into the hellish concentration camp system in Dachau.
